I have very mixed feelings about tourism. I love being able to see interesting sights, but I really don't like the carnival-like tourist atmosphere. I love to take pictures, but I hate the feeling of being nothing but a consumer. I like how being somewhere historical makes me want to learn more about history, but I groan each time I have to tell a local entrepreneur "No thank-you".
I am open to suggestions about how to make touring more meaningful/enjoyable...
